Our buddy Jay Otaguro of Noteworthy is living the good life out on the Paradise of the Pacific. Our Noteworthy brethren share the same sentiment as us in that “clothes make the man” and the clothing you choose makes a significant impact on how you are remembered. As one of Honolulu’s premier boutiques, vacationer’s enjoying their endless summers have the opportunity to stay fully fit. We recently had the chance to chop it up with Jay, here’s what he had to say:

What is your home base? Honolulu, Hawaii.

- Shoes: Varvatos zippered Chuck Taylor’s.

Favorite thing about your city: Honolulu is cultural melting pot, resulting in unique and amazing cuisine and the world’s most beautiful women.

What was the first designer piece you bought? Public School denim jacket.

Who is your dream footwear brand collaboration? Any project with Converse would be a dream.

What’s the one thing you can’t live without? Girlfriend, dog, and IPhone (in that order lol).

What inspires your style? Inland Empire by way of Tokyo.

Casual or Formal Wear? I appreciate the fashion forward and contemporary looks and fits, but for me personally, flipped brim fitteds, black t-shirts and raw denim will always win.

What’s your favorite hang out/go-to spot? The movie theater. I am a movie freak. The rare times that I do go out, it’s usually to our China Town district- in particular, The Manifest. That’s my favorite watering hole.

Favorite website? I visit thehundreds.com on a daily basis because it covers all spectrums. I check out bastardsquadron.com when I want to be shocked or have a good laugh and highsnobiety.com for new product and brand research.

Favorite song? Super band wagon, but been stuck on everything that Pusha-T and A$AP Rocky have been putting out. Favorite song of all time- More Than Words by Extreme. Yeah I know.

Dream job? I have it!

What’s the last thing to disgust you? The Aurora Colorado shooting.

What trend do you want to see die? Raccoon tails and overly skinny jeans on not-so-skinny people.

What’s the most common statement people make about your style? That I only wear the color black. True statement, I hate color.

PUBLISHED LOOKS SUMMER 2012: GOOD FIT FRIDAY II

MOONRISE KINGDOM

Two thumbs up.

Over the weekend I got the chance to catch a great new film directed by Wes Anderson called Moonrise Kingdom. The film is based in 1965 and is about a young boy and girl who fall in love and decide to run away together. Throwing parents and scout leaders into panic, an irregular search party is sent out to find the couple. With an all-star cast list including Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Jason Schwartzman, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton you can just anticipate greatness to happen. In typical Wes Anderson fashion, the cast wardrobe is amazing. Every detail on each character is on point. The coolest details are the patches on all the scouts’ gear. They are randomly highlighted throughout the film.

Overall, I definitely recommend going to see this movie. It hits every genre to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone.

You may have spotted them at the Well-Connected sale in DTLA this past March. The truck definitely stirred up a lot of conversation!

HERE TO THERE: DJ SPINNA

This past Saturday, we had some very special guests drop by the Publish offices to pay us a visit. The homies Ryan and Asad (masterminds behind LA’s Soul Slam and Wonderfull events) stopped by with none other than the man of the hour himself, superproducer and world-renowned party igniter, DJ Spinna. Fresh off a flight from LAX (and a gig the night before at SoHo’s Submercer), Spinna was most definitely on his “no-sleep-swag” as he dug through the crates. Only this time, he was digging for fits rather than wax…and the crates were just cardboard boxes, but work with us here.

 

After getting laced with some pieces that he picked out, he had to swing over to the hotel for a few brief hours of R&R before taking the stage at The Echoplex for Soul Slam 8. The night was a massive success (as it always tends to be), with over a thousand people packed inside, dancing and sweating to the better part of Prince & MJ’s discographies, blended and presented as only Spinna can do it.

To give you an insight of what this video series will be: it’s just normal days and normal thoughts. More than anything this Visual Notes And Ideas series will feature some friends that speak things out loud that I have always thought.

THE KIDS ARE SHOOTING

Don’t worry! It’s just with cameras. Hanging out at Publish HQ, we did what kids do: got bored really fast. Who can blame us? We’re just young kids trying to hold onto these very years where being irresponsible is acceptable (but frowned upon). Within the confines of the building, we powered up our cameras and did some test shots in the product room. You’ll see more of those photos at a later point in time, but for now, here are some random snaps and thoughts.

Let’s just hope that these keys get even more dusty in the months to come. The new motto (forget #YOLO): spend more time outside, and more time spent living.
